This song is a favorite of so many people I know, even a Super amazing, and Sweet Celebrity…
Michael Nesmith once said while referring to his composition, “Different Drum,” that any song that was written by him, or any of the other three members of the Music Group The Monkees,, was a Monkees song. And when he had already been on his own for years as a solo artist, many years later, he said, that he “had never really left the Monkees,” it was an important and special part of his youth, and he kept it with him always, and put a part of it’s essence, into all of his fantastic creations. It is Clear that The Monkee side of Michael never went away. His playful and whimsical side, lead to his preference, for all of his friends to call him Nes, in later years of his life, which originally started out as the hip, and youthful nickname of Papa Nes.
Lyrics to “Joanne” by Michael Nesmith
- First verse
- Her name was Joanne, and she lived in a meadow by a pond,
- She touched me for a moment, with a look that spoke to me of her sweet love,
- Then the woman that she was, drove her on in desperation,
- And I saw as she went, a most hopeless situation,
- For Joanne and the man, and the time, that made them both run.
- Second verse
- She was only a girl, I know that well, still I could not see,
- That the hold that she had, was much stronger than the love she felt for me,
- But staying with her and my little bit of wisdom,
- Broke down her desires, like a light, through a prison,
- Into yellows and blues and a tune, that I could not have sung,
- Though the essence is gone, I have no tears to cry for her, and my only thoughts of her are kind,
- Third verse
- Her name was Joanne, and she lived in a meadow by a pond,
- she touched me for a moment, with a look that spoke to me of her sweet love,
- Then the woman that she was, drove her on with desperation,
- And I saw as she went, a most hopeless situation,
- For Joanne and the man, and the time that made them both run,
- For Joanne and the man and the time, that made them both run.

The Celebrities that Love Joanne Facts Charts and More!
Joanne has long been a favorite song in the hearts of True music lovers. It was the favorite one of Michael’s first wife, the enchanting, Miss Phyllis Barbour. She was spending a typical day in their home at the time, and overheard Michael creating it while in the tub, Like an artist often does, it seemed As though it was meant to be created, as he sang it loudly and beautifully as he bathed in the tub. Phyllis was hypnotized by the Lovley melody radiating from the bathroom, and enter, with the pressing Comment and question she immediately presented her husband with, “That is the most Beautiful thing I have ever heard!” she declared, and then she asked him what the name of the mystic melody was. It was Joanne, which charted as high as number 21 on the American billboard chart, and as Spectacularly as making it to Number 3 on Australian charts, and Number 1 In New Zealand! A Celebrity that I am honored to say allows me to call her my friend, Jodi Ritzen, Promoter for the stars, Creator Of Monkee mania Radio, Charismatic Radio host and more the amazing and Very kind, Miss Jodi Ritzen, Has said on her radio show, that Joanne, is, her favorite Monkees song of all time .It is also the very Favorite song of all time, of my little Furry Angel, Pumpkin. She always gets so dreamy and lovey over Joanne, the minute it comes on, her whole face changes, and if I am stroking her head, or her tummy, she will suddenly pet me back. I don’t know if Joanne will turn out to be your favorite Monkees song of all time, But with it’s heartbreaking story of love no longer, and the hands of fate blowing the lovers in two opposite directions, I hope it at least moves you. And as you soak in the richness Of Michael Nesmith’s Blue, soulful, country boy voice, as his voice seems to rise and fall over the curves of the meadow in the song lyrics, as yellows and blues materialize in a melody that seems beautiful enough to be the one in the lyrics, depicted as “a tune that he could not have sung” I hope you absorb it’s underlying message, to not part ways badly, but to remember, even finished and ended relationships, fondly. To remember the good and not the bad, to hold onto the joy and not to the pain and to love fearlessly, and without thinking of the possibility of loss. Have a beautiful day, even when the world is bad.
