When My purr-fect Pumpkin licks her plate squeaky clean, I know my food was really yummy!
Wafting through the air on any given day in my home is the scent of some kind of delicious protein roasting or stewing away. When this fantastic smell wafts through the house, Pumpkin’s face perks up from where it lay resting in her bed and she stands up and eagerly sniffs the air, trying to decipher what the mystery delight she smells cooking may be. Pumpkin knows that if she smells my cooking, a yummy treat is on its’ way to her tummy. I never let any one member of my family’s reaction determine whether or not a meal was a hit or not. I leave that up to my Soulmate, my beautiful kitty, Pumpkin Umpkin Wunkins. Cats, as most of you know, are very fussy eaters, which is part of why we love them of course, and this is also a reason why one adorable tiny paws up from pumpkin, means so much more than if absolutely everyone else gave me their thumbs up. If Pumpkin says no, then it is probably a no. And if Pumpkin loves something, then I know, it must really be yummy. Pumpkin only really likes cat treats and kibbles, and when she does eat human food, if she finishes it, it is like getting a gold medal in the dinner Olympics. when she doesn’t finish her human-treat plate, I know a recipe needs tweaking, and when she runs away from whatever creation of mine, I am attempting to offer her, I know that the taste of the food is probably barely edible.
Treats that are good for your kitty, that you can cook yourself, at home, that cost less than prepackaged kitty treats.
Have you ever wondered why ash or bone are listed in the ingredient label for your Kitty cat’s favorite treats? it certainly doesn’t sound like a yummy thing to have in a treat to me. I think even the most carnivorous kitty wouldn’t want to eat bone, and what is the ash from, or for? Well, I have a solution for those of you who wish you could give your feline friend a healthy and affordable treat. If you just look in your fridge and pantry right now, you might even have the ingredients already.
Homemade cat treats that you Kitty will love! and your Puppy can enjoy too!
Treats that both Kitty cats and Puppy dogs alike can enjoy are easy to make. roast some chicken that you rubbed with a couple of tablespoons of healthy olive oil, at a low heat for a few hours, and soon you have a treat that can be enjoyed by all of your furry friends! Or try cooking some ground meat (Beef, Turkey, Pork, even chicken!) in tiny bit of olive oil and serving a portion of that to your Never-just-a-pet-friend. They will love it! Also try mixing a little bit of Pumpkin squash puree to any cat or dog food, for added fiber and to help improve digestion. or add a half or whole teaspoon of organic flaxseed oil to their food or meals for boosted brain health and to promote a shiny coat and healthy skin.
Really GREAT and IMPORTANT TIPS!
- Cut treats for cats into very small pieces, they have much smaller mouths than dogs, and it is usually safer to error on the side of small when cutting their food.
- Don’t add salt to the things you cook your kitty, salt is not an ingredient that cats should really have, especially in large amounts, so avoid adding it if you can.
- Keep it fresh! put fresh, homemade treats for your cat or dog away in zipper sealed plastic bags, or in airtight sealed plastic containers, treat it like human food, just a few days in the fridge, and it either goes into the trash, or into the freezer. error on the side of caution, and listen to the golden rule of food safety, “when in doubt, throw it out.”
