,

Suddenly you hear it, twangy electric guitar comes into your ears, at first, you are eager for singing to begin, but then a feeling sets in, a vision of the sounds, colors and feelings seem to apear in your mind, you can hear the world, and see everything that your eyes can not see, music, love, hope and dreams, appear in rhythms and colors in your mind, all evoked by this song and it’s ethereal Syth, and David Bowie’s enthralling and invigorating voice.

Whenever I am searching for a sound of comfort, and looking for a thrill of excitement to bring me back to life from the harsh wear and tear of life, on the body and soul, when questions plague my mind and sorrow cast a shadow on my heart, David’s voice reaches out to me in this song, and I feel excited, about life, and music, and I feel less alone, That is something David understands about music, it transcends all and saves people touches people, makes them feel love and hope, and this song does all of that and more

To me, Sound and Vision, is a reflection of David’s own search for music and art, and his own amazement at their positive affect on the mind and soul.

“I suspect that dreams are an integral part of existence, with far more use for us than we’ve made of them…The fine line between the dream state and reality is at times, for me, quite grey.”-David Bowie

Sound and Vision places me into a dream world, one that is totally removed from the reality of life and all it’s brutality, I am lulled into the softness of an electric blue room, filled with ethereal sounds, and for the three minutes and two seconds the song is filling my ears, it is so beautiful.

Bellow are the few lyrics in “Sound and Vison”, I think perhaps they are even more meaningful as they were so selectively crafted, these few words so have such a power to evoke a spiritual sensation and vivid images in your mind and emotions in your heart. You listen to the song, and you enter a dream.

  • Blue, Blue, Electric Blue
  • That’s the Color of my Room
  • Where I Will Live
  • Blue, Blue
  • Pale Blinds Drawn All Day
  • Nothing to Read, Nothing to Say
  • Blue, Blue
  • I will sit right down
  • Waiting for the gift of sound and vision
  • And I will sing
  • Waiting for the gift of sound and vision
  • Drifting into my solitude
  • Over my head
  • Don’t You Wonder Sometimes
  • About Sound and Vision?
  • About Sound and Vision?
  • About Sound and Vision?

“I don’t see any boundaries between any of the art forms. I think they all inter-relate completely.”-David Bowie

I love the video that goes with this songs with this song, it’s a visual work of art, With David wearing a cherry red Jacket and his signature 80’s boots that are thoroughly stylish and he dazzled us with in other videos such as one of the alternate versions of the “Heroes” video. He Shyly and excitedly is receiving an award and he is also posing for a photo shoot , up against a blue background, akin to “the color of his room” in the song sound and Vision, his fidgeting and moving from the stool to the chair, adds to the venerable and Human charm that David often exudes. I pay special attention for when he sits in the chair and puts his feet up on the stool, with coolness and stylishness, and look for the half smile that is there if you can catch it right as he stands up, before continuing on with the rest of the photos shoot, being so natural in front of the camera and even fingering through the pages of a magazine while all the cameras flash trying to capture an iconic picture.

My Favorite Version, of “Sound and Vison”, that was first shown to me by someone unimaginably special to me. 🙂

David’s song inevitably make you feel emotions, his sad songs fill us with sadness and heartache, his tense songs get our hearts racing, his dance songs get us to loosen up and yield to the music and move, his scary songs make us not only reflect upon our own fears but also to see what David fears himself, David always helps us see the world through his eyes, and to open up our own eyes, to what we feel and think about the world, and this song can fly you to the sky on a dreamy rhythm, and help you ponder your own search for yourself, and for Sound and Vision.

Doesn’t he Look cute with a kitty in his arms? David loves to shock, but beneath the stardust, is a very sweet and down to earth boy.
My Own Precious, Perfect, Kitty, Pumpkin Umpkin Wumpkins, Chilling out and listening too to the cool tunes of Cool Cat, and Sweetheart, David Bowie,
If you think that no one could ever manage to capture the magic of a song like this live, then you have to hear and see this version , It has all the magic of the record and then some special magic of it’s own.
